Do I Need to Tip My Wedding Musician?

Chicago wedding musician Veronica Gomoll sits at a black grand piano providing wedding ceremony piano music. She is dressed in a black full length dress with a black fur cape.

It can be super confusing to figure out which wedding vendors you should tip – am I right??

Let me simplify one for you! Are you expected to tip a live musician who has played for your wedding ceremony or cocktail hour? The short answer (at least, for self-employed musicians like myself): Tips are not required or expected, but certainly always appreciated!

In my time as a Chicago wedding musician, I usually do not receive a tip, and that is perfectly okay with me! I always try to put my whole self into making your wedding music exactly what you want. If I have really put extra time and effort into a couple’s wedding music, a tip is a lovely way for them to express their thanks and I do a little happy dance inside when I get one. I have even received a tip in the mail from the bride’s mother a few weeks later on one occasion. However, there are other ways to thank a wedding pianist or other live musician that are just as important to me, if not more so!

  1. Recommend my piano musician services to your friends or family who are planning weddings or parties! Advertising can be time consuming and/or expensive, so your personal recommendations mean the world to me.
  2. Leave me reviews on the websites I am listed on (The Knot, Wedding Wire, Zola, and Facebook). These reviews are what other prospective couples are looking for while scrolling through Illinois wedding pianists, and they can make a huge difference in the amount of bookings I receive. I am always so grateful when a couple takes time out of their busy newlywed life to leave me a wonderful review.
  3. Mention me or like/comment/repost my content on social media! This makes me visible to all of your lovely friends who may be planning weddings or parties soon!
